President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has expressed sympathy to Nepal following deadly flash floods that hit villages near the Nepal-China border.
“The Philippines extends its deepest condolences to our friends in Nepal and to all those affected by the deadly flash flood yesterday,” Marcos Jr. said in a post on X on Thursday, Aug. 27.
“Our deepest sympathies go out to those who lost family, loved ones, and friends. Please accept our most heartfelt prayers for strength in this difficult time.”
Reports said at least 270 bodies had been recovered while more than 1,300 people remained missing following the disaster.
PCO Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said there were no reported Filipino casualties as of Thursday morning.
“Nakikipag-coordinate na ang pamahalaan sa Nepalese authorities and with the Filipino community to determine if there are Filipinos affected by the incident,” Castro said during a Palace briefing.
She said records from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration showed 18 overseas Filipino workers in Nepal.
Data from the Department of Foreign Affairs also showed 128 Filipinos in the country, most of them women married to Nepalese nationals, Castro added.IMT
