President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has made it clear that the Philippines will welcome investments as long as these do not come at the expense of Filipino interests, Malacañang said.
PCO Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the President does not want any transaction that would put the country or its people at a disadvantage.
“Nagsalita rin po ang Pangulo, hindi maaaring gumawa ng anumang transaksyon na ang Pilipinas o mga Pilipino ang siyang madedehado,” Castro said during a Palace press briefing.
She said the government remains open to investments and economic partnerships but these must benefit Filipinos and comply with Philippine laws.
“Kailangan po natin na magkaroon ng mga investments, pero hindi nangangahulugan na ang ating mga kapwa Pilipino ang magdurusa,” she said.
Castro also stressed that the government would not allow investors to disregard the rights of Filipinos or violate existing laws.
“So maliwanag yan, hindi natin pababayaan kung ano ang itinatalaga ng ating batas, hindi natin iba-violate ang karapatan ng ating mga kapwa Pilipino,” she added.IMT
