Estimated production losses from the red-striped soft scale insect (RSSI) infestation in sugarcane farms across Iloilo have reached P1.18 billion as of October 5, 2026, according to the provincial government.
Of the total losses, P122.47 million were attributed to totally damaged sugarcane farms, while P1.059 billion came from partially damaged areas.
The infestation has affected more than 10,000 hectares of agricultural areas in the province, with 9,491 sugarcane farmers from 27 municipalities and cities reportedly affected.
Three local government units; Dueñas, Passi City and San Enrique, have declared a state of calamity due to the infestation.
The provincial government continues to coordinate with national government agencies to monitor the spread of RSSI and implement response measures in affected areas.IMT
