A month-long surveillance operation culminated in the arrest of a high-value individual (HVI) and the seizure of approximately P1.7 million worth of shabu in Pototan, Iloilo, on Tuesday morning, June 9.

The suspect, identified only as alias “Onyok,” 45, an unemployed resident of Pototan town, was apprehended during a buy-bust operation in Barangay Rumbang for possessing approximately 250 grams of shabu.

Authorities also recovered the marked buy-bust money and several non-drug pieces of evidence from the suspect, who is now in police custody.

The suspect will face charges for violating Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

The operation was carried out by operatives from the Iloilo Police Provincial Office–Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit Team 2, in coordination with the Pototan Municipal Police Station, Regional Special Operations Group, and the Provincial Intelligence Unit.

Police Brigadier General Randulf T. Tuaño, Police Regional Office (PRO-6) director, praised the operating units for the successful operation.

“The seizure of this substantial quantity of illegal drugs greatly disrupts the supply chain of drug traffickers operating in our communities,” he said.

“More importantly, we have prevented these dangerous substances from reaching individuals whose lives could have been ruined by illegal drugs,” Tuaño added.IMT
