The Supreme Court (SC) of the Philippines has denied the petition of Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa seeking a temporary restraining order (TRO) against the arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) against him.

In a 9-5-1 vote, the SC rejected Dela Rosa’s request to stop the implementation of the arrest warrant.

“The SC, in a vote of 9-5-1, denied the prayer for a temporary restraining order (TRO) and/or writ of preliminary injunction filed by Senator Ronald ‘Bato’ M. Dela Rosa,” the SC said in a press briefer released on Wednesday, May 20.

The high court clarified, however, that its ruling only pertained to the request for interim relief.

“The main issues raised by the parties in their pleadings and motions are yet to be resolved in the main case,” it added.

Dela Rosa is facing an arrest warrant from the ICC over alleged crimes against humanity linked to the war on drugs under the administration of former President Rodrigo Duterte, during which thousands of Filipinos were killed.IMT
