The Antique Provincial Veterinary (ProVet) has tightened its border control, particularly in the northern part of the province, as it raises a red alert against the African swine fever (ASF).
Dr. Marco Rafael Ardamil, ProVet Public Health Division chief, said that starting June 20, they have already prohibited the reentry of cargo trucks at the border of Antique and Aklan for those delivering swine or live weight in Capiz.
“We are now implementing biosecurity exclusion whereby we are preventing the possible spread of ASF in Antique,” he said.
The provincial government of Capiz announced on June 19 that blood samples taken from swine in Panitan, Pontevedra, and Roxas City were positive for ASF based on the result of the laboratory testing at the Regional Animal Diseases and Diagnostic Laboratory in Iloilo City.
“Capiz traders usually procure live weight in Antique. From January to April 2026, there were deliveries of 14,612 heads,” Ardamil said.
Ardamil said cargo trucks from Antique to the Iloilo border are still allowed to enter the province since there are no reported ASF cases in the city and province of Iloilo.
“We advise, though, disinfection of the cargo trucks before their entry to the province,” he said.
The province has a border control in Hamtic and Anini-y towns for cargo trucks plying Antique-Iloilo.PNA
