Iloilo City Mayor Raisa Treñas and Australian Ambassador to the Philippines Marc Innes-Brown explored possible areas of cooperation during the envoy’s visit to the city.
Among the projects raised was the city’s planned Human Rights Hub, which is still being developed and undergoing a review of its guidelines.
“Hopefully, this can also open opportunities for partnership and collaboration since Australia already has had much success in this program,” Treñas said.
The mayor also briefed the envoy on Iloilo’s economic growth, particularly its tourism and MICE sectors and expanding international business and BPO industries.
“We also talked about the realities faced by many Ilonggos, particularly the need for opportunities that can help families improve their livelihoods,” she said.
Healthcare and education were also part of the meeting, with Treñas citing plans to improve healthcare facilities and district health centers to help decongest public hospitals and add classrooms to reduce the number of students in each classroom.
She said the city continues to work on programs aimed at helping residents become more self-reliant.IMT
