Iloilo City Mayor Raisa Treñas is pushing for more affordable and livable housing options as the city prepares for the Iloilo Urban Living Summit 2026 on September 29.
Treñas said the summit, to be held in partnership with the Iloilo Economic Development Foundation (ILED), will look at the current state and trends of urban living in the city.
“This is in partnership sa ILED. Ang aton nga gusto ipresent is ang status sang aton nga mga living communities diri sa aton apartments, condominium, mga rental communities,” the mayor said during an RMN Iloilo 774 interview on Tuesday, Sept. 22.
Treñas said the event will also give investors and those looking for opportunities in Iloilo a clearer picture of the city’s housing and urban living situation.
“Para maipakita naton sa investors kag sa mga nagapangita opportunities kung ano ang mga ara diri, ano ang mga trends sa aton urban living situation diri sa syudad,” according to her.
Treñas noted that there has also been growing interest from people who want to retire or move to Iloilo.
“Nakita man naton na kadamo interesado. Kung kis-a makita naton sa Facebook, kadamo na gusto mag-retire diri, mag-migrate,” she said.
The local chief executive said the city wants to accommodate newcomers while keeping housing within reach of local residents.
“We want our city to be still affordable para sa mga Ilonggos while naga-welcome kita sang iban nga gusto diri mag-migrate kag mag-retire,” said Treñas.
The summit will bring together property owners, developers and industry experts to discuss rental housing and communities for students, professionals, families and returning Ilonggos.IMT
