Senator Raffy Tulfo has raised alarm over the surge in drunk driving cases after the Department of Health recorded 1,555 road crashes during Holy Week, up by 255.8% from last year.

The senator slammed the lack and poor condition of breath analyzers among the Philippine National Police (PNP), Land Transportation Office, and Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, with many units reportedly defective or unusable.

With this, Tulfo said the he will immediately initiate a Senate investigation to hold accountable and penalize those proven negligent.

Records showed hundreds of units were damaged, discarded, or never used, while the PNP claimed it did not receive a single device.

Tulfo is also pushing stricter drunk driving laws, including requiring agencies to procure their own equipment and expanding their authority to apprehend violators.IMT
