The office of 5th District Congresswoman Binky April Tupas took the lead in delivering relief and financial assistance to families affected by the recent fire in Sara, Iloilo, underscoring a rapid response effort aimed at helping survivors recover from the devastating incident.

The assistance distribution was held on April 30 at the Northern Iloilo State University- Victorino Salcedo Sara Campus (NISU-VSC) Hostel, just two days after the April 28 fire that claimed one life, destroyed five houses, and partially damaged two others.

Working in coordination with the Department of Social Welfare and Development and NISU, the congressional office mobilized support for displaced families, including 26 students from the university’s Sara Campus who were directly affected by the tragedy.

The initiative highlighted the office’s commitment to immediate disaster response, ensuring that victims received essential goods and cash assistance at a critical time.

During the distribution, Tupas emphasized the importance of resilience and solidarity in overcoming loss, encouraging affected families to remain hopeful as they begin rebuilding their lives.

The event also served as a platform for coordination among stakeholders, with local officials, university leaders, and community representatives joining efforts to address urgent needs and discuss continued support for survivors.

By spearheading the relief drive, the Tupas office reinforced the role of responsive leadership in times of crisis, bringing together institutions and resources to provide timely intervention where it is needed most.

As affected families in Sara move toward recovery, the assistance extended through the congressional office stands as an example of how swift and collaborative action can ease the burden of communities facing sudden tragedy.
