The UAAP said it is closely monitoring the investigation into the deaths of Ateneo student-athletes Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili during a team activity in Aurora.
In a statement, the league extended its condolences to the families, teammates, coaches, and the Ateneo community.
The UAAP said it would wait for the results of investigations being conducted by the NBI, PNP-CIDG, CHED, and Ateneo before deciding on any action.
League officials stressed that sanctions will be imposed if authorities determine that rules, laws, or safety protocols were violated.
The association also pledged to review existing policies and strengthen measures aimed at protecting student-athletes.
It added that the tragedy highlights the need to prioritize safety, accountability, and welfare in all sports programs.IMT
