Senator Joel Villanueva is pushing to make allowances of teaching and non-teaching personnel in public schools inflation-proof.

He said Senate Bill Nos. 1605 and 1606 are timely amid the oil crisis, which has reduced the value of current benefits received by education workers.

“Benefit amounts are adjusted every three years to account for inflation,” Villanueva said, stressing the need to protect purchasing power.

Under the proposal, personnel in basic education, state universities, and tech-voc institutions will get P5,000 per quarter or P20,000 annually for grocery, transport, and medical expenses.

The senator said turning the allowances into law will shield them from budget cuts and ensure steady support for teachers and school staff. IMT
