Hundreds of elderly residents received financial recognition from the government as the National Commission for Senior Citizens (NCSC) in Western Visayas distributed cash gifts to qualified senior citizens in Iloilo City.

The payout was held at Robinsons Jaro, where beneficiaries from various districts arrived early to claim their incentives under Republic Act No. 11982, or the Expanded Centenarian Act.

A total of 639 senior citizens received financial assistance during the distribution. Individuals aged 80, 85, 90, and 95 were granted Php10,000 each, while four centenarians—those aged 100—received P100,000 in recognition of their longevity.

One of the beneficiaries, Lolita Barcenilla of Zamora, City Proper, expressed gratitude for the assistance, noting that it would help cover her expenses for food and medicine.

In an interview, Rara Ganzon, Regional Director of NCSC Western Visayas, announced that additional payouts are scheduled in May to benefit more qualified senior citizens across the region.

The initiative underscores the government’s commitment to honoring the contributions of the elderly while providing financial support to improve their well-being and quality of life.IMT
