The Iloilo City Government has unveiled a comprehensive learning program designed to bolster literacy and student development from early childhood up to Grade 12.
The multi-sectoral program, titled “Edu-Go: Read. Learn. Grow,” unites government agencies, educational institutions, and community stakeholders to deliver targeted academic support.
“This is a very long journey and a hard one because we have a lot to cope with,” Mayor Raisa Treñas said during the program’s launch on September 16.
“This Edu-Go program, we really make sure it’s comprehensive; not only for daycare but until Grade 12,” she continued.
The initiative relies on seven specialized components designed to address diverse learning tiers:
▪️Edu-Go Sugod: Focuses on early childhood development.
▪️Edu-Go Upod: Caters to learners with disabilities and those requiring specialized support.
▪️Edu-Go Basa: Targets reading, numeracy, and comprehension.
▪️Edu-Go Balik: Provides a second chance for out-of-school youth and adults.
▪️Edu-Go Level-Up: Emphasizes practical skills development.
▪️Edu-Go Pamilya: Engages families and local communities.
▪️Edu-Go Talaan: Tracks individual student progress and needs.
The initial rollout centers on Edu-Go Sugod, prioritizing daycare teacher training and performance evaluations to cultivate high instructional standards.
“If we have quality teachers equals quality students. And we will continue to train to make sure that we will deliver quality students and learners for Iloilo City,” Treñas said.
Edu-Go Sugod features three distinct learning tiers: Edu Liit for toddlers under three and their guardians, Pre-Kindergarten 1 for children aged 3 years and 11 months, and Pre-Kindergarten 2 for four-year-olds nearing five.
The city currently operates 201 child development centers accommodating approximately 13,000 enrollees.
Complementing the launch, the city also introduced Project SABAT in partnership with the West Visayas State University College of Education.
The project aims to sharpen the capabilities of child development teachers handling children with special needs while reinforcing stakeholder collaboration.IMT
