Iloilo City is developing a comprehensive drainage plan based on a scientific study conducted by experts from the University of the Philippines Diliman to address the city’s recurring flooding problem.

Mayor Raisa Treñas disclosed the initiative during her second State of the City Address (SOCA), responding to a question on the city government’s proposed solution to flooding.

Treñas said the city government commissioned the study, allocating P7 million to establish a scientific basis for developing a comprehensive drainage plan.

While the plan is being prepared, the city continues to implement immediate measures to improve drainage and strengthen its flood response.

From July 2025 to September 2026, the Infrastructure and Facility Conservation Office had declogged 18.4 kilometers of drainage systems, according to the city government.

The city is also continuing maintenance of its pumping stations and preparing equipment to enable faster response during flooding incidents.IMT
