Iloilo First District Rep. Janette Garin on Wednesday, June 19, filed cyberlibel and perjury complaints before the Department of Justice against 18 former bodyguards and their lawyer, Atty. Levito Baligod, over allegations linking her to the supposed receipt of cash-filled luggage.
In a media interview, Garin said she does not personally know any of the 18 former bodyguards of former congressman Zaldy Co.
“Hindi ko kilala yung 18 bodyguards at drivers na iyan. Wala akong kilala sa kanilang lahat. Ang kilala ko lang ay si former congressman Mike Defensor at si Attorney Baligod,” she told reporters.
The lawmaker said she delayed filing the complaints while waiting for copies of the sworn statements of those involved.
Garin also denied ever receiving bags, envelopes or luggage containing money from Co.
“Malinis ang konsensya ko at ni isang bag, envelope o maleta ay walang naibigay si Zaldy Co sa akin o maski sino mang miyembro ng aking pamilya at ng aking opisina,” she said.
According to Garin, the case will give her a chance to directly confront her accusers and ask them to identify who supposedly delivered the luggage and where the alleged transactions took place.IMT
