Fresh from the success of the monthlong celebration of the 89th Iloilo City Charter Anniversary, Iloilo City now looks ahead to its 90th Charter Day celebration next year, with Mayor Raisa Treñas envisioning an even more people-centered celebration.
“Siguro more programs para pagid sa tao. Ginapangitaan pa gid naton paagi paano kita makapanaog sa ground kag para mabatyagan sang mga Ilonggos ang beauty sang aton nga Iloilo City,” Mayor Raisa said.
The 89th Charter Day celebration this year showcased one of the city’s most diverse lineups of activities, covering health and social services, community programs, culture, food, livelihood, wellness, and sports.
More than 40 programs and activities were held throughout the monthlong celebration.
Among these were the Medical and Dental Mission for senior citizens and persons with disabilities, Mobile Registration Caravan and National ID registration, Pet Fashionista on the RISE, GAD & GLOW employee wellness activity, BSPO and Family Planning Day, Kape Ta! sa Merkado, Calle Real Charter Day Night Market, Saot Ilonggo, Lutong Ilonggo, and various sports activities.
But for Mayor Raisa, the next Charter Day should go beyond celebration—it should be an opportunity to serve more people.
The success of this year’s Charter Month was also seen in Kape Ta! sa Merkado, a week-long coffee festival that drew more than 18 local coffee shops.
“Through this program, we are promoting not only Iloilo Coffee and the coffee shops, but also our farmers,” Mayor Raisa said.
With its strong response, the City Government is looking at ways to sustain and expand Kape Ta! beyond Charter Month.
More programs that reach more people and bring the City Government closer to the Ilonggos. This, Mayor Raisa said, is the direction she hopes to pursue as Iloilo City prepares for its 90th Charter Day.
