More than a thousand families in Iloilo City have been affected by flooding triggered by heavy rains dumped by the southwest monsoon or habagat.
As of 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 18, the city government’s Operations Center has recorded flooding in 69 barangays.
Floodwaters, which reached up to 50 inches, affected a total of 1,056 families or 5,442 individuals across the city’s seven districts.
Most of the affected families are from Jaro, Mandurriao, and La Paz. One hundred ninety-seven (658 individuals) of them are still staying in various evacuation centers.
The help expedite assistance delivery, three City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) clusters have been activated.
These include Food and Non-Food Items, Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM), and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) Protection.
