Malacañang on Tuesday, June 2, clarified that the proposed P240 fee for travelers entering and leaving the country is still under study.

Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the Bureau of Immigration proposal has not yet been approved and remains under evaluation.

“Sa ngayon po, ito ay proposal pa lamang,” Castro said.

The fee is intended to help fund the modernization of the country’s immigration system and strengthen border security.

However, Castro stressed that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has not taken a position on the proposal.

“Kaya huwag muna tayong maalarma. It is just a proposal,” she added.

The Bureau of Immigration also said the proposal is still under review and may still be revised or scrapped.IMT
