The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) has assured the public of tight security measures while urging participating progressive groups and labor unions to keep their assemblies “peaceful and orderly” on Labor Day, May 1.
ICPO director Police Colonel Wilbert B. Parilla said that full coordination and security preparations have been finalized to ensure the safe conduct of expected rallies, mass protests, and demonstrations across the city.
The city’s top cop issued strict directives to all unit and station commanders, setting a clear objective of achieving zero major incidents citywide.
While the ICPO assured the public of its steadfast commitment to upholding and respecting human rights during the mass actions, it firmly reiterated the strict implementation of the “No Permit, No Rally” policy.
The police noted that this reminder is crucial amid the possibility of large demonstrations related to various national issues currently drawing public attention.
The ICPO mobilized personnel, mobile patrols, and Civil Disturbance Management (CDM) contingents in key areas. These units are on standby to provide immediate emergency assistance and are prepared to respond swiftly to any unauthorized mass actions or disruptions.
Parilla appealed to the public and organizers to cooperate with law enforcement agencies.
“I urge the general public, especially participants or groups planning to hold activities, to exercise courtesy and respect and to remain within the bounds of the law,” he said.
He also issued a stern warning to potential agitators: “While we assure respect for human rights at all times, we reiterate that the ICPO will not hesitate to take appropriate action against anyone who violates the law.”IMT
