The Senate has approved on third and final reading bills granting Philippine citizenship to basketball player Bennie Boatwright and wrestler Matthew Ramos.

Lawmakers said the two athletes are expected to strengthen the country’s campaign in international sports competitions.

Senator Francis Pangilinan said Boatwright’s size, versatility, and professional experience could provide a boost to Gilas Pilipinas.

Ramos, meanwhile, hopes to represent the Philippines in international wrestling tournaments under the Wrestling Association of the Philippines.

Pangilinan said both athletes chose to carry the Philippine flag and bring honor to the country on the global stage.IMT
