An Ilongga overseas Filipino worker (OFW) was reportedly among those “abducted” when Hamas fighters launched attacks inside Israel on October 7.

In a report by radio station RMN-Iloilo, the OFW is a resident of Barangay Burak in the town of Maasin, Iloilo.

She and her younger sister, who both worked as caregivers in the town of Kibbutz Be’eri with separate employers, were held captive by the militant Palestinian group.

According to the report, the younger sister was later rescued by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) while the elder sister remains missing.

The family of the missing OFW is hoping that she still alive and could come home safe.

Francisco Heler, Jr., Public Employment Service Office (PESO-Iloilo) head, said they are continuously coordinating with the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and other concerned agencies.

As of Monday, Oct. 16, PESO-Iloilo had accounted for 194 Ilonggo OFWs in Israel. Fifty-three of them were from Maasin, 15 from Leon, 12 from Tubungan, and 10 from Lambunao.

The others were from Tigbauan (nine), San Joaquin (9), Oton (9), Passi City (8), Santa Barbara (7), Ajuy (6), Miag-ao (6), Badiangan (6), Zarraga (5), Barotac Nuevo (5), Cabatuan (5), Calinog (5), Batad (4), Janiuay (4), Balasan (3), Guimbal (3), Dingle (2), Estancia (1), New Lucena (1), Carles (1), Anilao (1), Sara (1), and Concepcion (1).IMT
