Festive Walk Iloilo introduced a refreshed urban landscape with the installation of a large-scale Taffeta Fabric Art Canopy at the Festive Walk Parade, reimagining its 1.1-kilometer retail and dining promenade as a vibrant summer landmark.

The installation brings together color, form, and structure to create an immersive public space that highlights contemporary art, reinforcing Festive Walk Iloilo’s role as a key destination for creative expression and lifestyle experiences.

A sky woven in fabrics

The centerpiece of this year’s summer festivities is a breathtaking overhead art installation designed by multidisciplinary artist Dan Cabalum and her team at D&D Creations. Known for merging interior design expertise with structural innovation, Cabalum’s vision for the summer canopy transforms Festive Walk Iloilo into an immersive, open-air gallery.

A nod to Filipino fiestas and street parades, the installation features a sophisticated tension system that replaces rigid beams with fluidity and light. Utilizing polyester-based taffeta fabric in a vivid, geometric palette of greens, oranges, pinks, and blues, the canopy creates a dynamic architectural identity overhead.

Beyond its visual appeal, the structure is a masterclass in functional design and sustainability. The triangle-shaped membranes are stretched across steel cables and columns to provide passive cooling and shade, significantly lowering the temperature for people below.

At night, the installation takes on new life with strategically placed accent and perimeter lighting, casting a warm, festive glow that enhances the mall’s visual harmony.

A celebration of local talent and culture

The canopy anchored a broader summer celebration at Festive Walk Iloilo, packed with interactive events that invited the community to engage with various art forms. On April 24, the pavement became a canvas for Street Chalk Art by Kyle Sarte and Larry Vido, complemented by a dynamic live graffiti mural session by Bureau—a group of graffiti artists in Iloilo. From April 24 to 26, visitors explored a mind-bending 3D art installation designed for immersive photography.

On April 26, guests enjoyed a vibrant summer music festival concert featuring Fitterkarma alongside a lineup of local bands including Kickin’ Jeans, Pray Boys, Please Eloise, Klove Hitch RON, Family Strokes, and Badjii. The festivities also showcased high-energy DJ sets, Hiphop dance battles organized by the Unitaz Dance Crew and cosplay events, bringing a modern, energetic flair to the season.

The artistic heart of Iloilo

The Taffeta Fabric Art Canopy remains on display along the Festive Walk Parade, offering visitors an immersive summer experience within Iloilo Business Park. As Iloilo City’s Center for Arts and Culture, Iloilo Business Park continues to uphold its role as a cultural hub in Western Visayas, nurturing spaces where creativity and community thrive through immersive and dynamic experiences.
