A 22-year-old woman was arrested in Iloilo City for allegedly offering unauthorized dental services, including “do-it-yourself (DIY) complete dental braces for P3,000 and P1,500 for removal of braces.”
The suspect, identified as alias “Maymay,” was entrapped by operatives of the Iloilo City Cyber Response Team (ICCRT) in Jaro district on Monday afternoon, Aug. 10.
The PNP–Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) said the operation stemmed from the suspect’s social media posts offering DIY braces.
Authorities discovered that Maymay “had no formal education, training, or professional license in dentistry, and she only learned the procedure solely through online video tutorials.”
The suspect is facing charges for violation of Section 33 of Republic Act (RA) No. 9484 or the Philippine Dental Act of 2007, in relation to Section 6 of RA No. 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
Maymay underwent inquest proceedings before the Iloilo City Office of the City Prosecutor on Tuesday, Aug. 11. She was temporarily freed after posting P30,000 bail.IMT
